Kevin L. Vick is an experienced litigator whose practice focuses on complex business litigation matters, with an emphasis on the media and entertainment industries. Kevin's trial experience includes the successful representation of a motion picture production company that resulted in a nearly $20 million judgment in his client's favor after a 15-week trial, as well as the successful defense of a major entertainment company against a lawsuit relating to the intellectual property and merchandising rights to a well-known children's character. In addition to his trial work, Kevin has significant commercial litigation experience. He has litigated disputes involving contracts, partnerships, and unfair competition in industries ranging from clothing to restaurants to commercial lending. Kevin also has represented print, broadcast, and on-line media companies, professional journals, and motion picture studios and production companies in a variety of litigation matters involving issues such as defamation, copyright, idea submission, invasion of privacy, and misappropriation of publicity rights.
Kevin recently co-authored an article, Section 230 Immunity and State Right of Publicity Claims, that appeared in the December 2008 edition of the Media Law Resource Center Bulletin.
Kevin is an Executive Committee Member of the Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar, a Web Editor for the American Bar Association's First Amendment and Media Litigation Committee, and a Co-Chair of the Training & Development Committee of the American Bar Association's Forum on Communications Law, which puts on an Annual Media Advocacy Workshop for aspiring media lawyers and law students at the American Bar Association Forum on Communications Law's Annual Conference.
Kevin received a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where he received first prize in the Williston Contracts Competition and was a semi-finalist in the Upper Level Ames Moot Court Competition, and he has a B.A., with honors and distinction, in political science from Stanford University. After graduating from law school, Kevin served as a law clerk to the Hon. Florence-Marie Cooper, United States District Court Judge for the Central District of California. Between college and law school, Kevin spent three years living in Barcelona, Spain, and he speaks Spanish.
